Tunbosun Afolayan is the first certified Strategic Communication Management Professional in West Africa and her work as a Sustainability & Geoscience expert continues to play an important role in the Energy industry.
As a strategic business communication adviser, she is a recipient of various awards across multi sectoral industries which include the Financial, Water, Solid minerals, and Oil & Gas sectors. A polymath, she holds varying post graduate degrees in Energy & Sustainability (University of Cumbria), Leadership & Entrepreneurship (China Europe International Business School), Business Analytics, Economics & Accounting (Harvard Business School), Geoscience (Robert Gordon University) and bachelor’s degree in Geology from University of Ilorin.
A pioneer on many fronts, she was decorated as 1 of 26 most inspiring Nigerian Women in the Netherlands, where she currently resides; awarded as the 2022 Nigerian Rising Woman in Energy, was NAPE’s first female publicity secretary (2021/22) first University Assistance Program chairperson (2026/17) and pioneer young professionals & student activities coordinator, (the first woman on these positions in the association’s 47 years of existence). She is a recipient of the 2021 Akwa Ibom State University Geoscience Leadership award of excellence, 2019 AAPG Distinguished Young professional award, 2016 NAPE Distinguished Young Professional award, Shell Staff recognition awards and other distinguished professional awards.
Currently, she sits on the board of Women in Maritime & Energy Awards and the AAPG Board of Certification. She is a global co-chair of AAPG Imperial Barrel Award, a 2023 Latin America Energy Opportunities Conference Session chair & theme speaker, and steering committee member of Women in Geoscience & Engineering.
As an advocate for improving the 3P (People, Processes, Planet) initiatives, she anchors her deep knowledge across these three sectors – Communication, Energy (Natural Resources Management as a major) and Sustainability. Equally, she takes great pride in my technology management expertise as it solidifies the connection across these three skills.
She is passionate about corporate communications, and she helps organisations build an inclusive & equitable culture, where people communicate effectively without bias & apprehension. Her communication style is conversational, clear and personable.
She is married to Kunle Afolayan (not the actor!), and they have two great children.
