In line with the strategy to groom promising SMEs, This award also inspires willing and able Small business owners that have the potential to be world-class enterprises an opportunity to actualize their dreams and aspirations. This is organized in collaboration with Federal Universities and other credible institutions in Nigeria. This initiative and partnership between the Universities and Rome Business School is offering SMEs a platform to promote themselves to investors and partners to enable speedy growth.
The top performing companies in individual categories of Growth, Financial Strength, Innovation, International Outlook, Corporate Governance and People capital, which shall be awarded Recommendation Citations.

The importance of SMEs is reflected in their ability for employment generation, relatively lower capital requirement and promotion of industrial development in rural areas. This sector produces a diverse range of products catering to various segments of market. Thus, it is clear that SMEs are an integral part of the Nigerian economy and are strong building blocks for the growth. This makes it important to nurture them in the form of right support and incentives from the government to achieve its full potential and a more balanced and inclusive economic growth.

Nigerian has had a long tradition of entrepreneurship and Nigerian entrepreneurs have contributed immensely to the country’s economic progress and international standing. The pivotal role of SMEs is underscored by the fact that they employ more than million people and account to some % of Nigerian production. It is now well accepted that the actual potential of the sector can be truly realized with faster enhancements in marketing, finance, skills development and technology.

Further, with the government’s current initiative of SME Startup Nigerian there is a need to highlight the success stories of high-performing SMEs, such that it acts as a source of motivation for new entrepreneurs. With this objective in mind, Rome Business School Nigeria partners with Brain box Entertainment Ltd in launching the SME Business Excellence Awards 2017, an initiative that will recognize and felicitate SMEs that have demonstrated exemplary performance in their respective fields.
