Company Visits: RBSN Executive Student Visits Amo Byng Nigeria, Awe, Oyo State

On Friday 15th November 2019, the students of Rome Business School Nigeria, as part of their curriculum visited Amo Byng Nigeria Limited.

Amo Byng Nigeria Limited is an agricultural company that deals in domesticated livestock rearing (such as noilers, broilers, layers, fishes, and bulls), feed production, beef production, hatchery, etc.

Upon arrival, the representatives of Amo Byng Nigeria Limited welcomed everyone to the premises, after which everyone moved in the group to some divisions of the organization under the guidance of the representatives. These sectors include the Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd, the Natundo chickens section, the livestock feeds region and abattoir.

The HR consultant of the organization in the person of Mr. Dapo Adedoyin lectured the students on some processes involved in the activities of the organization; beef production, fish farming, empowerment programme, etc.

The visit to Amo Byng Nigeria Limited located at Awe, Oyo Town, Oyo State, was quite a memorable one for both the students and the staff of Rome Business School Nigeria as every minute spent added great value to the existing knowledge of the students on areas such as agricultural, business processes and operations, strategies on how to strive in international competition landscape, exposure to various business ideas via the value chain, organization’s products market development strategies, inventions, vision 2020 and in particular products on the pipeline and many more.

The student explored the different sections of the company, they were exposed to different areas in the value chain where opportunities could be tapped in, there was a brief training session on the overview of the company where student ask critical question that has to bother on competition on local and international space, learnt about poultry management, bull rearing / beef production, and livestock feed production.

The Amo Byng Nigeria Limited has a Bull Ranch in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, where bulls are rare specifically for beef production as a product, the bull business was established due to deficit of beef in the market space. The primary products of the bull are more nutritional compared to the cow meat, this is because the Bull meat contains less fat compared to the cow product. The by-product of the bull such as blood and bones are recycled as feeds for the poultry section.

As part of the innovative and invention recorded by Amo Byng Nigeria Limited was the alteration of parent stock DNA to produce Noilers Buds, artificial insemination for birds, rearing and producing of birds, the broilers, the layer chicks (which are available in the grandparents and the parents stock).

AMO BYNG NIGERIA LIMITED has a rich and colorful heritage. Amo Farm Industries established in 1960 by the distinguished industrialist from Awe, Chief. A. Amoje went into partnership with a German company called Katman Germany in 1970 to exploit emerging opportunities in the poultry industry, especially in egg production. Changes in government policy caused Katman to depart Nigeria in 1978. The merger with the SCPA group (a French multinational) selling feed to Nigerian farmers resulted in the construction of a feed mill in 1987 and Amo Sanders was born.

They decided to start hatchery Amo Farm Sanders Hatchery in 1987 to produce Day-old-chicks. In 2002, the French declared bankruptcy and sold the company. The new Management resumed the feed mill company as Amo Byng Nig. Ltd and the Farm/Hatchery as Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd. Amo Byng has since established factories in Aba, Abia State (Eastern Nigeria) and Jos, Plateau State (Northern Nigeria) in addition to the factory in Awe, Oyo State (South Western Nigeria).
