It was a refreshing relief as the Rome Business School Nigeria team visited the Headquarters of CourierPlus in Lagos State for a physical company tour on Thursday 19th November 2020.
From the entrance gate of CourierPlus located at the cozy local airport drive, to the parking lot, reception, training room and all round the facility, one could feel the deep sense of fulfilment experienced by the staff and clients.
Little wonder the organization is known as one of the largest supply chain solutions/distribution company in Nigeria, among the top four logistics providers as a matter of fact. The excellent, professional and humane ambience flows from inside out and has cascaded to simply every aspect of the business.
Operating since 2009, Courier Plus has developed core competencies in freight forwarding, fulfilment and local haulage. This is possible because of its investment in acquisition of robust technology, infrastructure, talents, and deploying tailor made fulfilment operations for global e-commerce businesses, up to same day delivery for a wide range of businesses and sectors.
Moderating the session was Mahendra Waman a Faculty member of Rome Business School Nigeria, a former employee of CourierPlus and a current staff of SuperFlux which is the parent company of CourierPlus.
In one of the highlights, the Managing Director of Courier Plus- Mr Isaac Olorugbagbe left no stone unturned in enlightening Rome Business School Nigeria students on Courier Express and Parcel business, products and services, importance of customers, competitive priorities and especially priorities of responsive business models for a successful business etc. Describing the business as professional load carriers, the MD excitedly shared CEP’s products and services, progress, challenges, future, his wealth of experience, success factors, and business model for quality, flexibility, low cost, and speed to satisfy customer’s needs/ requirements. One remarkable trait is the Customer centric approach.
Next was the company tour. We split into two tour groups led by the Head of Operations (Maxwell) and the 2 AGMs (Joseph and Macduke). The tour guides took turns in explaining the value proposition of CourierPlus at various stages of the tour. Other staff in attendance include the Head of Training (Martha), Head of HR (Maryjane), Head Branding and Communications (Chidera), and Abisola.
From Rome Business School were the Country Director (Dr Humphrey), faculty member (Mahendra), Admission and Sales Enrolment Coordinator (Tomilola), Didactic representative (Francis), the Head of Career Services (Ngozi Odukwe) and our Executive students from our MBA and Marketing and Sales Programs.
The tour took us to the Domestic Operations and Fleet, Administrative, Data Entry, International Operations, Small Parcel, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Customer Service/ Service Operations, IT, Risk Management and Compliance and Project units. It was more than a sneak peep. The MD’s office was not left out of the tour. The ware houses are large and structured to accommodate and immediately dispatch all manner of goods regardless of temperature requirements.
Suffice to say is the reality that CourierPlus is out for business based on the infrastructure and expertise in place, up to collaborations with customs, airlines, franchises and information/ data gathering.
Company visits are embedded in Rome Business School’s Master program to bridge the gap between the classroom and real work environment. Aside use of case studies as a teaching method, opportunities for interactions through company visits, in-company business projects and coffee chats are utilised. The feedback over the years show that Rome Business School is notable for producing Better Managers for a Better World.
