Bridging Classroom Learning with Industry Practice: RBSN Visits MDS Logistics West Africa

At Rome Business School Nigeria (RBSN), learning extends well beyond lecture halls. As part of its commitment to experiential, industry-driven education, RBSN students recently undertook an immersive company visit to MDS Logistics West Africa, gaining direct exposure to real-world supply chain and logistics operations.

The visit forms a core part of RBSN’s experiential learning framework, designed to complement academic learning with practical insight, industry interaction, and leadership development in today’s fast-evolving business landscape.

Understanding the Supply Chain Ecosystem

The session opened with an insightful presentation by Mr. Tunji Gomes, Director of Commercial Development at MDS Logistics West Africa. He provided students with a comprehensive overview of the company’s evolution, strategic positioning, and its role in delivering integrated logistics solutions across West Africa.

Mr. Gomes also contextualized MDS’s operations within the global supply chain ecosystem, referencing DP World to illustrate how interconnected logistics networks enable international trade and economic growth. A key highlight of the discussion was sustainability—exploring how innovation, operational efficiency, and responsible business practices are shaping the future of logistics and supply chain management.

From Theory to Practice: Inside Operations

Following the presentation, students participated in a guided operational tour of the Monitoring and Tracking Department, led by Mr. Ogoadimma Chukwuebuka, Acting General Manager, Transport. This session offered a behind-the-scenes view of real-time tracking systems, transport coordination processes, and the technology that underpins modern logistics operations.

Students observed how data, technology, and strategic decision-making work together to ensure efficiency, accountability, and timely delivery—bringing classroom theories to life in a practical and impactful way.

Why Industry Visits Matter

The visit reinforced the value of experiential learning in business education. Through direct engagement with industry professionals and live operational environments, students gained:

  • Practical insight into real-world business operations
  • Exposure to industry best practices and emerging trends
  • A clearer understanding of career pathways within supply chain and logistics
  • Increased confidence and readiness for leadership roles

These experiences help bridge the gap between academic theory and professional application, ensuring that RBSN students graduate not only knowledgeable, but truly industry-ready.
